On March 9th, NANI staff participated as volunteers and sponsors in a dynamic World Kidney Day event hosted by the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois. The NKFI provided a free screening for kidney diseases also brought participants information about their health and community, offered vision and hearing screening and provided free haircuts and manicures – all in honor of World Kidney Day. The event was held at the Oak View Community Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
As a special recognition, Illinois Secretary of State Jessie White performed a ribbon cutting for the new and improved Kidney-Mobile educational exhibit. Secretary White spoke of his personal experience with organ transplantation and of the dire need for donated organs in our state. Increasing the number of citizens on the organ donation registry is one of Secretary White’s greatest initiatives. Secretary White’s positive message inspired the volunteers and community members present at the screening event.
