On October 18th, a group of 40 professionals from Chicago-area Nephrology practices gathered to learn about legislative and regulatory developments in the US that will directly impact patients with Kidney Disease and the field of Nephrology. The event was organized and sponsored by the two largest independent groups of kidney physicians in the Chicago area, Nephrology Associates of Northern Illinois (NANI) and Associates in Nephrology (AIN)
The evening’s speaker was Robert Blaser, Director of Public Policy for the Renal Physicians Association (RPA). Mr. Blaser presented, “Legislative and Regulatory update for Nephrology” as well as information on the RPA’s Political Action Committee. The Political Action Committee is the voice of physicians in this specialty. It supports and facilitates direct access to legislators involved in kidney care, healthcare legislation, physician interests and medicine regulatory affairs.
Brian O’Dea, CFO / COO of NANI summarized the value of the event this way. “Rob is doing great work for us in Washington, most recently successfully advocating to include the home as an accepted place of service for tele-medicine codes. I consider the RPA our professional home and the PAC our advocate in Washington.”
After the legislative and regulatory developments presentation, a silent auction and reception raised funds for the RPA Political Action Committee. The evening was beneficial to both the audience of physicians and the RPA PAC non- profit organization.
